The main office and warehouse are now in Autumn Pond Park (commercial condominiums) on Alden Avenue off Route 33 in Greenland, NH.  We service primarily the Greater Seacoast Area, with extended forays out to further points for larger projects — like Concord, Manchester, Keene, Ossipee, and Wolfboro, New Hampshire, and north to Portland and Bethel, Maine, and then south to Boston, Gloucester, Concord, and Chelmsford, Massachusetts.

We are CSIA (Chimney Safety Institute of America) and NFI (National Fireplace Institute) certified, and members of the National Chimney Sweep Guild (NCSG).  We also belong to the Northeast Association of Chimney and Hearth Professionals (NEACHP), of which Bob is a former executive board member.

We run our business with an easy-going family style atmosphere with flexible schedules and mutual respect for each employee's individuality and personal needs.  We pay our staff highly, including profit sharing, provide medical insurance and expect great service and dedication in return.  We like our work and do it with a smile.  Your suggestions are welcomed!  Let us know how we do.

Bob is an avid tennis player while Merrie belongs to two book groups.  They have a 29 year old son, Robinson, and a yellow lab named Solomon, all of whom enjoy traveling!

ABOUT US

Our Mission Statement

A Merrie Sweepe Chimney Service, Inc.'s mission is to promote chimney safety and performance for our customers and in our community through traditional, professional service and modern, expanding technology.  We will constantly strive to improve and update our skills and to exceed our customers' expectations.  We also pledge to deal honestly, fairly and kindly with our customers and each other, maintaining high standards and doing good in our community.

OUR MOTTO:  Modern Technology, Traditional Service

Traditional Service:  We lament the absence of heartfelt, cheerful and thorough service in the marketplace today.  In contrast, we will try to do much

                                    better than the usual:

  1. We'll treat you personally and enthusiastically when you make an appointment.
  2. We'll always be flexible about your individual needs and patient about unusual requests and requirements.  We'll take your problems seriously.
  3. We'll keep appointments, be on time, or call you.
  4. We'll protect your home with foot-wiping rugs, drop cloths, dust collecting systems, appropriate staging and roof protection, and attention to detail.
  5. We'll treat your children and pets royally!
  6. We'll explain things to you thoroughly and answer as many questions as you might have.
  7. We'll do what we say we're going to do and then sometimes more.
  8. If we make a mistake, we'll own up to it and make it right.
  9. We'll constantly keep your safety and well-being at the forefront.
  10. We will do unto you as we would have you do unto us should our roles be reversed.

Modern Technology:  Chimney service has come a long way since the days of the poor climbing boys and crude brushes used more than a century ago in England.  Today's sweep has a wide variety of sophisticated tools at his/her disposal, both to make our job easier and also to provide more thorough and detailed services.

The National Chimney Sweep Guild, to which we belong, is a long-standing professional organization with a history of regular workshops, ongoing technical education and annual trade shows that promote the development of inventive tools and products to do our job.

Examples of our technology:

■ Videoscanning Equipment

■ Digital Photography Systems

■ Computer Programs

■ Mechanical Brushes and Rotary Whips/Chains

Powerful, Versatile Vacuum Systems
■ Long Range Demolition Tools

■ Chemicals for Cleaning and Sealing

■ Ladder and Scaffolding Systems

■ Protective Clothing and Equipment

■ Modern Chimney Lining Systems

■ Innovative Masonry Repair Techniques

■ Stoves and Fireplaces that are much safer and more efficient than your grandparents' were!

In Summary:

We plan to service your chimney in a thoughtful and caring manner but also with intelligence and state-of-the-art equipment.

What is more quintessentially New England than a snowy woodpile with maple sap buckets?  These are in owner Bob and Merrie's back yard.

A Merrie Sweepe was established in 1983 when Bob and Merrie Warner realized that their teaching salaries, even combined, were not enough!  Bob, who is also a Presbyterian minister, was teaching 5th grade in Rye.  Merrie, with an elementary education degree, was running the Head Start program in Portsmouth.  Originally picturing only a part time enterprise, Bob started A Merrie Sweepe out of the back (and the roof) of his old 1970 Volvo station wagon!  With 20' ladders, the Volvo was, indeed, a striking sight as Bob's top hat started gracing the Seacoast skylines.  About the time the Volvo frame gave way a few months later from all the weight, Bob started buying vans and hiring staff.  33 years later, A Merrie Sweepe Chimney Service, Inc. has become the largest and one of the best respected chimney service companies in New Hampshire, now employing 11 full time and 1 part time staff, with specialties in chimney cleaning, lining, masonry repair, prefab chimney installations and stove and fireplace installations.  Merrie, who originally gave her name, blessing and ideas to the new venture, now helps "command an empire" from the Warner home office in Rye.
